Sat 13th freedom from tortureFreedom from Torture:Stoke-on-Trent to Manchester Cycle
Fft helps torture survivors – asylum seekers and refugees – to rebuild their lives. FfT provides medical and social care, psychological and physical therapy, and medico-legal reports to support asylum appeals. It also monitors the UK’s international obligations towards survivors of torture, asylum seekers and refugees. ‘Cycle against Torture 2019’ is a ride of 865 miles from Hastings to Edinburgh, visiting FfT centres and supporter groups on the way, during July 2019. It aims to raise awareness of FfT’s work as well as raising funds for the organisation. Some riders will be doing the whole route, but we are looking for local people to join the ride from Stoke to Manchester. Perhaps you’d be willing to lead one of these stages, especially if you know the route well? You don’t have to be a champion cyclist, or commit to doing a whole stage – you can cycle as far as you feel comfortable. Just be willing to get sponsors – help with sponsorship/fundraising is available. You can find out more about the event, and register your interest as a leader or rider here. More details here. bikefridayBike Friday
Bike Friday is a set of led commuter rides into Manchester from various starting places around Greater Manchester. Most rides leave at 8am but check the website as they vary depending on the distance from Manchester. Rides finish at the Eastern Bloc coffee shop (5A Stevenson Square, M1 1DN), in Manchester City Centre. Whether you’re new to cycling, returning to your bike after a break, or cycle every day, join us on Bike Friday. We ride at a moderate pace and have experienced ride leaders. It is entirely law-abiding – we do not try to slow down the traffic. All welcome (bring a bike). Click here for start points. Contact: graeme@manchesterfoe.org.uk.

criticalmassCritical Mass
A bike ride that happens in our city and cities all over the world every last Friday of the month. Critical Mass rides began in San Francisco in 1992 and rides spread around the United States and the world with over 200 rides taking place in 2006. Critical Mass has no leaders, and no central organization licenses rides. In every city that has a Critical Mass ride, some locals simply picked a date, time, and location for the ride and publicised it, and thus the ride was born. Critical Mass is an idea and an event, not an organization. It is a great way to meet other cyclists and to have a fun bike ride. It is not a fast ride and often children come too, everyone is welcome to come and celebrate the bicycle! Meet central library, st peters square, Manchester.
