2019 Group Rides

chorlton wanderers lpgp Meet Sunday for 10am departure, at Chorlton Water Park, car park, entrance at the end of Maitland Road, off Barlow Moor Road, Manchester M21 7WH .

  • Rides in the Winter are shorter at around 20-30 miles, and in the Summer longer at up to 55 miles.
  • Speed is gentle, around 10-12 mph.

Sun 13th
birdinhandKnolls Green
The destination is the Bird in Hand in Knolls Green and we’ll be going out through Tatton Park before heading south of Knutsford towards the pub. Expect warm fires, hearty food and cheap beer when we get there. You’ll need cash; they don’t take cards. Our return will be via the airport tunnels followed by a loop behind the Amazon warehouse before we drop to Wythenshawe Hospital and then back to the Water Park. The route is approximately 30 miles; 18 miles to the pub, 12 miles back. Route here.
Sun 10th
 CheshireDunham Massey
Out via Bucklow Hill, taking in some country lanes, then on towards Lymm before we drop down to the lunch stop at the Rope and Anchor near Dunham Massey. After lunch we shall make our way back to the Bridgwater canal near Altrincham via the Trans Pennine Trail, if conditions are reasonable. If not then we will get to the canal towpath by road. Ride should be around thirty five miles max and is suitable for skinny tyres.

Mobberley St_Wilfrid's_Church Mobberley
37 miles via Handforth, Hare Hill, The Edge, pub at Mobberly, the Church, then back via Ashley and the Bridgewater Canal to yet more beer at the Beech. A massive 400 metres of climbing over a long enough distance to make it fairly easy. Postponed from Sun 10th due to bad weather.

35 miles. Around 15 miles to lunch at the Old Boathouse Pub at 12.30pm.. Route.

leesPark Bridge & Lees
We’ll be going about 35 mostly off-road miles along the Medlock Valley to Park Bridge and Lees, with a lunch stop in Lees. Meet Chorlton Water Park, Maitland Avenue entrance at 10.00 for a prompt 10.15 start. Click here for route.
Sun 9th
Peover Heath
We will be heading for the rolling hills of Cheshire to Ashley, Mobberley. Chelford & Peover Heath. Our midway stop will be the Dog Pub in Peover Heath (18 miles). The return route will be along roads similar to the outward journey. It’s suitable for all bikes as there are no off road segments. The total distance is approximately 40 miles.

Church House InnTour de Macc, Over the Hills and (not) Far Away
This is quite hilly, one big steep climb and a few short ones. Over to Gawsworth via the Eastern end of Alderley Edge, gracious farms, woods and parkland. Across the A523 and up to Sutton Lane, and the Church House Inn, Bollington, nice beers, food and friendly service. Then the killer, Coalpits Lane, one in five for nearly a kilometre, but what views when you get there! More up and down along the edge of the Peak District then down to Prestbury and home via the same end of the Edge as before. About 50 miles and well worth the effort! Route here.

40 Miles. Route includes: Dunham Massey Hall, (Arley Hall maybe), Tabley House, Tatton Old Hall, Tatton Hall, Ashley Hall, Wythenshawe Hall.

grappenhall Grappenhall
Lunch at The Ram’s Head – click here for menu. The route is about 48 miles and it’s largely on-road; there a few short sections of track but they are well surfaced and, depending on how the weather has been, there could also be a stretch of the Trans Pennine Trail, as we head past Urmston. It’s about 28 miles to the pub so please have snacks and water with you if you think you’ll need them to ride that far. The early part of the route is a long, gentle uphill. In turn this leads to a long, gentle downhill.

alderley egde Alderley Edge
40 miles. There will be the usual significant hill before lunch as we climb Artist’s Lane. Lunch at the De Trafford arms – menu here. Back via Woodford, Bramhall, Adswood & Edegely, crossing the Mersey & returning via the Trans Pennine Trail. Route here.
Sun 10th
 Dunham Massey
35 miles with good views and only a few, very short, hills. Come and enjoy the autumn colours, some fresh air and good company. Lunch is at The Vine in Dunham, a good value pub that is CASH ONLY, so please bring money with you. Route here.
Sun 8th
25 miles. Route : stretches on the Bridgewater Canal, Greenway, Roe Green Loop Line, the guided busway and some quiet roads before we cross Chat Moss. The return will be over the Ship Canal at Irlam Locks then either past Man Utd’s training ground and in to Altrincham or we’ll head straight back through Urmston and Stretford.Lunch at the Station.
